Remedy Entertainment scored a big hit last year with Alan Wake 2, and the company has announced some interesting new plans to for the future of Alan Wake and one of their other biggest games.
In a new press release, the company announced they are teaming up with independent production company Annapurna Pictures to help co-finance 50 percent of Control 2, the sequel to the 2019 third-person shooter about a woman investigating a mysterious government bureau with a suite of supernatural powers. Not only did Control create a new hit franchise for Remedy, it also had a crossover with the Alan Wake series and created a shared universe between the two games.

]]>During an April 29 conference call, Alan Wake 2 developer Remedy claimed it cannot speculate on a potential Steam release “at the moment.” The studio expressed hopes players will “find [the game] on the Epic Games Store,” where it is exclusively available for PC users.
Thus far, Alan Wake 2 has been exclusively hosted on Epic Games’ storefront for PC players, with many hoping for a potential move to Steam. Other games have done the same in the past, with timed exclusivity on EGS and an eventual Steam port. However, Remedy called the move to Steam “a speculation which we cannot do at the moment,” implying the company does not have current plans to move away from Epic Games, though the wording leaves the option seemingly open.

In the Business review, Remedy had plenty of good news to report. Revenue has increased, the company acquired full rights to the Control franchise, and their EBITDA is down significantly. Yet, despite all that, it wasn’t enough to pay off the costs of making 2023’s Alan Wake 2.
]]>Following the massive success of Alan Wake 2, Finnish game development studio Remedy has regained all the rights to the Control IP, including the in-development Condor and Control 2. The rights previously belonged to 505 Games, which published the original game.
The decision was announced on Feb. 28 in a post on Remedy’s website, where the company elaborated on the financial side of the deal, as well as what it could mean for the future of Control. Remedy wrote that “all publishing, distribution, marketing and other rights to Control, codename Condor, Control 2, and all future Control products” will revert to the company, adding that the Control franchise is in the developer’s core. “Remedy is now in a position to make the right product and business decisions focusing on long-term franchise growth,” the studio said.

]]>The Alan Wake 2 community is in raptures today after the release of a fan-made intro sequence featuring the game’s characters, with many immediately calling for a television show to match.
YouTuber NV, also known as naven0m on Twitter, shared the montage-like intro early on Jan. 1 and it didn’t take long for the passion project to gain its due recognition. Within a day of sharing, the video has been acknowledged by Remedy Entertainment’s creative director Sam Lake, Alan Wake 2 director Kyle Rowley, and Poets of the Fall—the real-life band that dons the moniker Old Gods of Asgard when Remedy calls upon them to provide some bangers in its largely shared universe of titles.
]]>James McCaffrey, the voice behind Rockstar’s Max Payne, died at age 65 on Dec. 17. McCaffrey was known as the titular character in Max Payne 3 and recently appeared in Alan Wake 2.
McCaffrey succumbed to cancer and died peacefully surrounded by friends and family, his manager confirmed to TMZ. He was born in 1959 in Albany, New York, gaining recognition through his role in the 1991 drama series Civil Wars. McCaffrey would go on to appear in numerous TV shows and some feature films, but was propelled to cult stardom after entering the video games industry as Max Payne.
]]>On Dec. 9, just two days after The Game Awards 2023, the album Rebirth—Greatest Hits by fictional band Old Gods of Asgard from Alan Wake 2 managed to break into the iTunes global top 10, right behind the likes of Coldplay.
For context, Old Gods of Asgard is actually a Finnish band called Poets of the Fall, which has worked with developer Remedy before and written songs for some of its games. For Alan Wake 2, the band appears in the game itself under the name Old Gods of Asgard and is responsible for the now iconic “Herald of Darkness” music video.

Alan Wake 2 received several updates adding new content and optimizing gameplay since launch, but one of the most anticipated updates yet to be added is the New Game Plus update. It seems its release may be closer than we thought, as Remedy teased that it may be released as soon as this month.
On Dec. 1, the Alan Wake 2 X account, formerly Twitter, posted an image with the words: “New month, new game… plus?” seemingly teasing that the highly anticipated update will go live before the end of December. While the specific release date has yet to be confirmed, fans are understandably excited by the post, with many expressing just how long they’ve been waiting for it.
