This year’s cinematic focuses on Noxus, showcasing its ruthless power and the key figures shaping its destiny. The Bite Marks cinematic featuring Arcane’s Mel Medarda—who is the latest champion revealed for League—Katarina, Darius, and many more champions. Riot’s attention to detail and Fortiche’s perfect brush strokes make this cinematic one fans will talk about for a long time.

Riot Games kicked off the 2025 League of Legends season with Bite Marks, a cinematic video created in partnership with Fortiche. Featuring vocals by TEYA, the cinematic masterfully blends storytelling, music, and animation, setting the stage for a first part of the year set in Noxus.

While the cinematic is not as shrouded in mystery as last year’s, there are still a few details that needed clarification. In an interview with Dot Esports, Riot’s principal marketing creative director, Matt Costa, and head of League studio, Andrei “Meddler” van Roon, shed light on the cinematic’s deeper connections to League lore and what fans can expect in the months ahead.

League of Legends fans now have a clear roadmap for every major international tournament through 2027. Riot Games has shared the full schedule and locations for MSI, Worlds, and its new First Stand events, which will feature stops in iconic and new locations from Korea to Brazil.

In the first dev blog of 2025, Riot detailed its plans for future tournaments. Starting with MSI 2025, which will bring the action to Vancouver, Canada, from June 27 to July 12, Riot is marking a much-anticipated return to North America’s west coast. For Worlds 2025, Riot is taking fans across China, with Play-Ins and the Swiss Stage in Beijing, quarterfinals and semifinals in Shanghai, and the finals in Chengdu.

Riot Games has unveiled “Flex,” a brand-new type of cosmetic for VALORANT that breaks away from the traditional lineup of skins, sprays, and player cards. Offering a unique way for players to express themselves, Flex items can be anything—except what players seems to want the most. 

Flex cosmetics are Riot Games’ latest addition to VALORANT’s arsenal of customization options. These items can take on various forms, including a block of cheese, a stress ball, or a cellphone, says Riot. At launch, players will be able to obtain two Flex items: one for free, and one included in the new battle pass, a cell phone and a snowflake respectively. 

Sometimes, the smallest changes can have the most profound impact. For League of Legends players, Riot Games’ decision to remove summoner names from ranked champion select is still worth celebrating as one of the developer’s best decisions three years after its implementation.

Riot first introduced the change to hide summoner names from ranked champion select in November 2022, and three years later, the community still seems to appreciate the improvement. At the time, Riot explained how many players use external sites and apps to gather information about teammates, leading to conclusions “that aren’t necessarily correct” and undue pressure, like forcing teammates to pick champions with the highest win rates or avoid certain picks. 

In Arcane’s first season, fans learned the origin and tragic meaning of Jinx’s name. In season two, they discover the story behind Violet’s name with a flashback. But there’s no official name origin story to Powder, which has sparked fans to create their own theories, some humorous and others connected to the show’s nuanced lore. 

Arcane delves deep into the origins of many League of Legends characters, tying the story of two cities to that of two sisters, Vi and Jinx. While fans learned Vander’s fondness for the name Violet gave the pink-haired sister her name, the same can’t be said for Powder. Her name’s origins have remained a mystery, leaving fans to come up with their own imaginative explanations on social media.
