One of Overwatch<\/em>\u2019s most iconic characters is embarking on a new adventure with a new moniker and, most importantly, a clean slate. <\/p>
The game\u2019s Oct. 26 live patch<\/a> integrates Cole Cassidy\u2014the new name<\/a> and identity of the cowboy formerly known as McCree\u2014into Overwatch<\/em> as a whole. The gunslinger will now be listed as \u201cCassidy\u201d in hero select menus, dialogue, and more.\u00a0<\/p>
Overwatch<\/em> developers announced earlier this year that they\u2019d be renaming the character after his real-life namesake, Blizzard developer Jesse McCree, was implicated in the California Department of Fair Employment and Housing\u2019s sexual harassment lawsuit<\/a> levied against the company.\u00a0<\/p>
After the allegations came to light, players and employees lobbied for an in-game name change<\/a>. On Oct. 22, the Overwatch <\/em>team debuted the name Cole Cassidy, a new moniker that hearkens to Butch Cassidy<\/a> and outlaw Cole Younger. Lore and a \u201cnarrative arc\u201d<\/a> should eventually explain this change to fans.\u00a0<\/p>
Aside from the formal introduction of Cassidy, this patch fixes a few minor bugs, such as players not receiving credit toward matches played in Junkenstein\u2019s Revenge.
