Harbor is the newest agent making his way onto the VALORANT<\/em> competitive scene, bringing a wave of meta-changing abilities and an interesting backstory.\u00a0<\/p>

The Indian mythology-inspired agent looks to add to a culturally diverse selection of characters in VALORANT<\/em>. <\/p>

In the past, Riot has focused on bringing an interesting and in-depth backstory to each and every character they implement into the game\u2014and, of course, this time around Harbor is no different.<\/p>

In a Twitch stream on Oct. 17<\/a>, the Riot team behind Harbor sunk their teeth into his background and culture. According to Ryan Clements, who\u2019s a part of VALORANT\u2019s<\/em> narrative team, the devs \u201cweren\u2019t interested in the Western concept of an adventurer and treasure hunter\u201d when they were building Agent 21’s story.<\/p>

Instead, the devs \u201cwanted something that felt right for engaging from India,\u201d Clements said, and so they leaned \u201cinto this special operative, military guy that is an expert and has integrity.\u201d<\/p>

Clements continued: \u201cWhen you look at Indian myth and Indian literature, their heroes are much more multifaceted than traditional Hollywood action heroes\u2026 You have this amazing tradition that we wanted to honor and celebrate.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>

The VALORANT <\/em>character developer expressed admiration for India\u2019s history and culture. \u201cIt should be celebrated and looked at when it comes to how we create agents and we represent all of the players around the world.\u201d<\/p>

\u201cIt was more of a matter of when are we going to make an Indian agent not if we\u2019re going to make one,\u201d the Riot Games story developer added.<\/p>

The developers went as far as to hire academic consultants to ensure they did the character and culture justice, so the team could \u201clearn and know more to respect the culture and the history and the players themselves.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>

Their end goal was to appreciate the culture of VALORANT <\/em>players and staff who have an Indian background, ensuring \u201cwhen they\u2019re picking this agent they are seeing parts of their culture represented in them.\u201d<\/p>

Contact harry@dotesports.com","url":"https:\/\/dotesports.com\/author\/harrisonthomas"}]}},"raw_content":"Harbor is the newest agent making his way onto the VALORANT competitive scene, bringing a wave of meta-changing abilities and an interesting backstory.\u00a0 The Indian mythology-inspired agent looks to add to a culturally diverse selection of characters in VALORANT.\u00a0 In the past, Riot has focused on bringing an interesting and in-depth backstory to each and every character they implement into the game\u2014and, of course, this time around Harbor is no different. In a Twitch stream on Oct. 17, the Riot team behind Harbor sunk their teeth into his background and culture. According to Ryan Clements, who\u2019s a part of VALORANT\u2019s narrative team, the devs \u201cweren\u2019t interested in the Western concept of an adventurer and treasure hunter\u201d when they were building Agent 21's story. Instead, the devs \u201cwanted something that felt right for engaging from India,\u201d Clements said, and so they leaned \u201cinto this special operative, military guy that is an expert and has integrity.\u201d Clements continued: \u201cWhen you look at Indian myth and Indian literature, their heroes are much more multifaceted than traditional Hollywood action heroes\u2026 You have this amazing tradition that we wanted to honor and celebrate.\u201d\u00a0 The VALORANT character developer expressed admiration for India\u2019s history and culture. \u201cIt should be celebrated and looked at when it comes to how we create agents and we represent all of the players around the world.\u201d \u201cIt was more of a matter of when are we going to make an Indian agent not if we\u2019re going to make one,\u201d the Riot Games story developer added.
