Over the last few weeks, I found myself with some rare free time, so I booted up my PS4 and repurchased Resident Evil 5, which had been on sale for just $4.99—a complete steal. Midway through my replay, I started to truly appreciate the best bits of Resident Evil 5, such as the debonair dictator supervillain, the rich lore, and the surprisingly enduring visuals.
I wanted to relive my youth a little and revisit Resident Evil 5 to see if I could enjoy it as an adult as much as I did back then. I hadn’t picked up the game in over a decade, so I couldn’t remember much of the storyline, which suited me just fine. It felt like I was playing it for the first time again. I sacrificed a lot of blood, sweat, and tears, but I finally completed the game—and it’s still one of the best titles in the whole series.
]]>Resident Evil 7, Capcom’s beloved horror game that reinvigorated the Resident Evil series, has sold less than 2,000 copies on iOS.
Last year, Apple ceremoniously announced that it was entering the AAA gaming market by bringing some well-known games to the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max. One of the first games it released was Resident Evil 7. First released in 2017, Capcom’s beloved horror series was meant to show just how capable the iPhone 15 Pro was. Even though it was a very successful port from the hardware perspective, Resident Evil 7 failed miserably on iOS.
]]>A new Resident Evil game is in development, which will likely be Resident Evil 9. The announcement came during CAPCOM SUMMER NEXT on July 2, where famed director Koshi Nakanishi also revealed his involvement in the project.
Nakanishi, known for recently directing Resident Evil VII: Biohazard, expressed his excitement about the new installment soon after the sequel details were revealed in the Capcom livestream. “We’re making a new Resident Evil,” Nakanishi stated. “It was really difficult to figure out what to do after Seven. But I found it, and to be honest, it feels substantial. I can’t share any details yet, but I hope you’re excited for the day I can.”
]]>The anticipation has been growing for a new Resident Evil title following the massive success and critical acclaim of Resident Evil 4 Remake. But players are uncertain as to where Capcom will go next. Another remake? A new game? One leaker believes they have the answer.
AestheticGamer, more commonly known in the gaming community as Dusk Golem, shared a post on Twitter/X today regarding what they claim to be an upcoming Resident Evil title. “I’m choosing to be the one to burst the bubble,” they said in the first of several tweets where they claim that Capcom is not going to announce Resident Evil 9 this summer, nor is it working on a remake of Resident Evil 1 or Resident Evil 5. So, what is the company developing? Dusk Golem claims it’s Resident Evil 0 and Resident Evil: Code Veronica, both of which have cult followings and are beloved entries in the Resident Evil franchise.
]]>Resident Evil 5 was released on March 5, 2009 as a long-awaited sequel to the beloved Resident Evil 4 (the original, not the remake). RE5 had big shoes to fill. It launched to generally positive reviews, but faced substantial criticism, too. Looking at Capcom’s recent slew of Resident Evil Remakes, it wouldn’t be unusual if we got a remake of Resident Evil 5 in the near future—but what kind of remake will it be?
Before Resident Evil 5, previous titles were single-player only. In 2009, online multiplayer was in high demand, and Capcom decided to shake things up by adding co-op. It was a double-edged sword, though. According to many players, myself included, Resident Evil 5 is only fun if you play it with someone.
]]>PC gamers aren’t holding back their displeasure with CAPCOM’s implementation of an anti-modding software after claims of performance issues have begun flooding in.
CAPCOM’s history with the PC modding community has been shaky for quite some time now, but things reached a bit of a boiling point on Jan. 11 after players noticed a quiet update that added a DRM software to Resident Evil Revelations—a single-player game that is more than 10 years old. According to players, the addition of the software, which serves the primary purpose of preventing mods from being implemented, is causing stutters of 15-20 FPS. As a result, Steam users are calling for a review bomb on the game until CAPCOM removes the software. It seems to be working, as at the time of writing, Resident Evil Revelations has a Mostly Negative rating on recent Steam reviews.
]]>Twitch streamer Oddler has cleared a Resident Evil marathon he had failed to complete 12 years ago, paying homage to the fail that made him a meme.
Oddler is the face of one of Twitch’s most-used emotes: the ResidentSleeper. It was created after the player fell asleep during a big streaming marathon in 2011, putting an early end to it.
]]>Although many assumed this would be the case, Capcom has unequivocally confirmed it intends to release more Resident Evil remakes, but it stopped short of saying what the next one will be.
Yasuhiro Anpo, director of the Resident Evil 4 remake, shared that sentiment during a PlayStation partner awards event in Japan after being asked if Capcom wants to keep pumping out these remakes (via IGN). Given the critical and financial success of previous remakes (particularly the Resident Evil 2 one), it was always inevitable, but this is the first official statement about the matter from a Capcom representative.
]]>Originally only slated for a vague winter release window, the Resident Evil 4 remake’s VR mode is said to be launching next week for PlayStation 5 on Dec. 8.
Although it’s a free update for anyone who owns the game, a demo will also be made available on the very same day. Perhaps to entice any PSVR 2 owners into buying Resident Evil 4. You will obviously need a PSVR 2 headset to play the game in VR and the mode is exclusive to the PS5 version since there’s no mention of it being compatible with the original PSVR headset for PlayStation 4.
]]>Although the latest Resident Evil remake title sold over five million units in 2023, Capcom has no plans to follow up with another one in 2024. Instead, the company is looking to release an entirely different game unrelated to Resident Evil.
As reported by Insider Gaming Nov. 27, 2023, the news comes from a prominent insider who has leaked information about the Resident Evil series in the past. According to them, Capcom is planning on announcing a game that will “sell millions” by the end of 2024, which could possibly happen next month. Their information is said to come from a Capcom financial presentation, with the new game releasing sometime in 2024.
