Spectre Divide came onto the gaming scene hot, with a legitimately interesting twist on the tactical shooter genre and an advisory role for former CS:GO pro/FPS streaming god shroud. Unfortunately, it couldn’t maintain that momentum, and its player count quickly dwindled.
After debuting to a peak of 26,000 players on Steam according to Steam Charts, Spectre Divide is now hovering between 2,000 and 3,000 peak concurrent players on a daily basis. That’s definitely better than, say, Concord, but it also isn’t setting the world on fire, and Mountaintop Studios has even laid off a few devs since the game’s launch. Despite these concerns, Mountaintop CEO Nate Mitchell posted a blog today clearing up rumors and concerns for those still playing the game, promising a full new update of fresh content in season one—schedules for launch in December 2024 or January 2025—while the developers collect feedback in their current “save round,” as Mitchell puts it.
]]>Mountaintop Studios has already been forced to lower Spectre Divide‘s skin prices a little under 12 hours after the game’s launch as players took to review pages to bomb the game.
BobNSwap, the game director for Spectre Divide, addressed the massive player backlash in a Sept. 4 blog post by first apologizing for the over-priced weapon skins and bundles in the store. In the same post, the developer lowered the skins’ prices by up to 25 percent, with the Cryo Kinesis Masterpiece bundle now available for 7,000 SP (around $65), down from 9,000 SP (approximately $85). This change came shortly after Spectre Divide players began review bombing the game on Steam, accusing the developer of being greedy with their “overly expensive generic skins.”
]]>Spectre Divide launched on Steam on Sept. 3, opening the floodgates for shooter and Shroud fans to enjoy the game for free. It offers three primary modes and a practice range to dive into, with the ranked mode being locked, even after launch.
Here’s all the info you need to unlock ranked mode in Spectre Divide and all its ranks.
]]>Shooter fans have been hyped for Shroud’s new first-person shooter since he announced in August he’s been working on a game for the last two years.
Spectre Divide then quickly launched on Sept. 3 on Steam, available only to PC players to hop into for free. With the global release, it comfortably crossed its all-time player count peak (reaching almost 31,000 players on launch day), previously set during its early access.
]]>Mountaintop Studios is labelling its new tactical shooter Spectre Divide “genre-evolving.” And while the jury’s still out as to whether this new title will shake up the tac-shooter scene, one thing is sure: The way it approaches abilities is unlike any other.
There are no classes or heroes in Spectre Divide. Instead, players will have the ability to select a Sponsor prior to every match. These Sponsors resemble companies or factions and each come with three different abilities you can activate during a round. Many Sponsors have a clearly defined role; e.g., Bloom Technologies has support abilities like a barrier and a heal.
]]>Valve’s MOBA shooter Deadlock isn’t the only game capturing attention on PC this week, with thousands of players piling into Spectre Divide‘s early access. The shooter, developed by Mountaintop Games in partnership with Shroud, is looking to freshen up the FPS genre—and isn’t holding back early.
A little over 10,000 players hit the Spectre Divide servers today alone, according to stats site SteamDB; the highest count since 15,979 graced the first playtest two weeks ago. The player base fluctuates heavily, but early signs are great for the new shooter and with the weekend approaching, we’re likely going to see that 15,000-mark broken again very soon.
]]>Earning free rewards is a welcome idea for any online community. For those playing Spectre Divide, there’s an opportunity for you to earn some through Twitch drops. These rewards won’t be around for long, but they can be yours if you want them.
You have to obtain these Twitch drop rewards in a specific way and after a set amount of time watching others play the game. Before that, you must sync your Steam and Twitch accounts to ensure you can redeem the drops. You’ll want to act fast, too, because the Twitch drops for Spectre Divide won’t last long.
]]>Spectre Divide is an upcoming tactical first-person shooter looking to shake up the genre with new mechanics, weaponry, and abilities. The main focus will remain on your aim, however, and if you’re coming from another game, you’ll need to convert your sensitivity to ensure you’re as accurate as possible.
With the help of popular content creators and former pros, Mountaintop Studios has built a unique three-vs-three experience where a player can control two characters at the push of a button. Spectre Divide will challenge your tactical abilities alongside your teammates, but you must hone your accuracy for the best results.
