Before Sony acquired Bungie, an animated\u00a0Destiny\u00a0<\/em>series was said to be in development with Netflix. However, it has reportedly been canceled, likely due to a conflict of interest with another of Sony’s subsidiaries, anime streaming site Crunchyroll.<\/p>
One of the best things about\u00a0Destiny<\/em><\/a>,\u00a0<\/em>and what keeps many of us playing, is the lore, character backstories, and captivating worlds, so when\u00a0Forbes reported in 2022<\/a>\u00a0there would likely be a\u00a0Destiny 2<\/em>\u00a0anime series launching on Netflix, despite nothing concrete being revealed, fans were undoubtedly excited. However, on\u00a0April 17, The Game Post reported<\/a>\u00a0the\u00a0Destiny<\/em>\u00a0animated series project had been shut down.<\/p>

Paul Tassi, the Forbes journalist who first reported the possibility of a\u00a0Destiny 2<\/em>\u00a0animates series on Netflix, released a video on\u00a0April 17 dubbed “Destiny 2:<\/em>\u00a0Is There Any Way A\u00a0Destiny<\/em>\u00a0Show Is Still Happening At This Point?”<\/a>\u00a0where he mentioned the series “didn’t really come together,” and that it was “only in like the scripting phase or something.”<\/p>
He also mentioned that this project was in the works long ago, before\u00a0Sony acquired Bungie for $3.6 billion in 2022<\/a>.\u00a0Now that Sony owns Bungie, the possibility of a\u00a0Destiny<\/em>\u00a0series\u2014especially an animated one\u2014appearing on Netflix would be a cause for concern as Sony owns Crunchyroll, one of the most extensive animation streaming services that absorbed Funimation and its vast library as of\u00a0April 2<\/a>. So, if a\u00a0Destiny\u00a0<\/em>anime were to launch, it would be on Crunchyroll.<\/p>
Unsurprisingly, the news of the\u00a0Destiny<\/em>\u00a0series cancellation left fans disheartened. One fan, expressed their disappointment, stating they were\u00a0“really looking forward to seeing what they did with that.”<\/a>\u00a0Others shared this sentiment and said they believe scrapping this project is “a shame”<\/a>\u00a0considering how popular Netflix’s other game-based series, including Arcane<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0Cyberpunk: Edgerunners<\/a>, have been.<\/p>
And it’s not like a series based on games or franchises are terrible or unpopular. The latest game-based TV series,\u00a0Fallout<\/em>,<\/a>\u00a0has been a runaway success and has fans diving back into the wastelands. So, this could have been a good thing for\u00a0Destiny.<\/em><\/p>
