Aurora has been all but forgotten in League of Legends<\/em> since her launch, with shiny new game mode Swarm instead dominating players\u2019 game time and discourse. And, oddly enough, Riot Games must have known it would happen\u2060\u2014it\u2019s become a trend with event-plus-champion releases.<\/p>
Since arriving in League<\/em><\/a> <\/em>on July 17, new champion Aurora has struggled to make a major splash in the game\u2019s long-lasting fandom<\/a>. Instead, everything has been focused around something else entirely: Swarm<\/a>, the bold new bullet-heaven game mode<\/a> Riot shipped alongside the champ. Unfortunately for the Vastayan mage, the combo move has basically killed all her hype.<\/p>

The League <\/em>fandom was quick to express their shock<\/a> at how rapidly Aurora and her release had been swept under the rug, though some condemned her as too \u201cuninteresting\u201d<\/a> to make a splash. Most blamed her theme for killing any excitement<\/a>, while some also suggested Riot missed the mark<\/a> with \u201cmore anime bullshit.\u201d<\/p>
That\u2019s not to say Aurora hasn\u2019t been popping up in many Summoner\u2019s Rift matches\u2060\u2014she\u2019s already appeared in 73,462 games<\/a>, according to League <\/em>stat tracker U.GG\u2060\u2014but with champion debuts normally huge events, it feels lackluster.<\/p>
Events don\u2019t always overshadow characters, of course. Lillia and Yone (who both arrived during Spirit Blossom events<\/a>) and Akshan (who headlined the Sentinels event<\/a>) managed to escape the yoke. Still, it could be argued all three of those champions required spells of huge metagame ascendancy to break free.<\/p>
