Apex Legends<\/em> continues to face significant backlash from its community, despite developer Respawn Entertainment\u2019s decision to revert the controversial battle pass changes that sparked the negative feedback.<\/p>
The battle pass clearly isn’t the only thing fans are unhappy with. For a long time, players have been complaining about Apex Legends’<\/em> anti-cheat and servers, and now they’re unhappy with its lackluster new content, too.<\/p>
The game currently sits at an “Overwhelmingly Negative” review score on steam<\/a>, with only six percent of recent reviews being positive. This discontent led to one of the largest drops in player count the game has seen, pushing Apex Legends<\/em> down to the ninth spot on Steam Charts<\/a>.<\/p>

The controversy began with the release of Season 22, which introduced a new dual battle pass system that many players found unsatisfactory<\/a>. The battle pass, a key feature for many players seeking to enhance their cosmetics collection, had a Premium Plus tier. Initially, this new tier could only be purchased using real-world money and not the in-game premium currency, Apex Coins.<\/p>
Following massive backlash and a community-led boycott, Respawn issued an apology and reverted the battle pass changes<\/a>, now letting players use Apex Coins to purchase both battle passes like in the past. <\/p>
But this backflip wasn’t enough to reverse the drop in the game\u2019s review score. One disgruntled player wrote: \u201cThey continue to add new ways to spend money on the game but wont upgrade the anti cheat system or the servers<\/a>,” and said it\u2019s about time the developer looks at fixing the long-standing issues with the game. \u201cThey are at an all time low player count and decide to rework the battle pass instead of fixing their game. Shame on you Respawn<\/a>.\u201d <\/p>
