As a result, players were a bit surprised to hear the mobile game would be bypassing the rest of Sword and Shield to start releasing Pok\u00e9mon featured in Scarlet and Violet.\u00a0 Ahead of the 2023 Pok\u00e9mon World Championships, Niantic and The Pok\u00e9mon Company teased that Paldean Pok\u00e9mon will be appearing in Pok\u00e9mon Go when the next season starts on Sept. 1. According to Pok\u00e9mon Go director Michael Steranka, it was a decision made for relevancy. \u201cIt was a tough decision to skip ahead to Paldea, but we really wanted to feature those Pok\u00e9mon while they are super relevant with Scarlet and Violet,\u201d Steranka said to Dot Esports, highlighting that, while fans of the Galar region have so far received a selection of native Pok\u00e9mon, the remainder were skipped over but are coming in the \"not-so-distant future.\" In the interim, Steranka and the team opted into highlighting the Paldea region instead. Galar received a similar treatment back in August 2021 when various Pok\u00e9mon from Sword and Shield like Zacian, Zamazenta, and Wooloo began appearing despite Niantic still being deep in content based on Kalos and the X and Y games at the time.\u00a0 Related: All Pok\u00e9mon Go Fest 2023: New York City Special Research tasks and rewards Whether or not this is a decision being made internally to try and cross-promote Pok\u00e9mon Go alongside Scarlet and Violet\u2019s upcoming The Hidden Treasure of Area Zero DLC expansion, which launches its first part on Sept. 13, is yet to be seen. Niantic has a history of jumping around and releasing Pok\u00e9mon out of order, even if they aren\u2019t done with a full generation yet.\u00a0 As Steranka said, this does not mean Galarian Pok\u00e9mon are taking a backseat at all, it is just striking while the Paldean iron is hot with a few additions like Sprigatito, Fuecoco, and Quaxly\u2014even if we don\u2019t know what other Gen 9 Pok\u00e9mon will make the jump alongside the Starters.\u00a0Gimmighoul doesn't really count since it was actually first revealed through Pok\u00e9mon Go. Steranka also mentioned that it is \u201ca special moment\u201d every time they get to introduce a new generation of Pok\u00e9mon into Pok\u00e9mon Go, but part of Niantic\u2019s focus in recent years has been trying to work out how Pok\u00e9mon releases impact the game and making sure the game isn\u2019t reliant on them. \u201cI actually feel like we\u2019ve made tremendous strides on [Pok\u00e9mon releases] in recent months and years because there\u2019s only so many Pokemon out there to release in Pok\u00e9mon Go and we can\u2019t really just operate the game in a way that it only matters when we release new Pok\u00e9mon,\u201d Steranka said.\u00a0 Steranka also said the Pok\u00e9mon Go team has been happy with the ways it has been keeping players engaged and entertained without needing to rely on a Pok\u00e9mon release for every event. As the game continues to grow, approaching development \u201cwithout having to rely on Pok\u00e9mon releases has been a big challenge\u201d that he says the team is \u201con a good streak of striking balance\u201d with. As a result, players were a bit surprised to hear the mobile game would be bypassing the rest of Sword and Shield to start releasing Pok\u00e9mon featured in Scarlet and Violet.\u00a0 Ahead of the 2023 Pok\u00e9mon World Championships, Niantic and The Pok\u00e9mon Company teased that Paldean Pok\u00e9mon will be appearing in Pok\u00e9mon Go when the next season starts on Sept. 1. According to Pok\u00e9mon Go director Michael Steranka, it was a decision made for relevancy. \u201cIt was a tough decision to skip ahead to Paldea, but we really wanted to feature those Pok\u00e9mon while they are super relevant with Scarlet and Violet,\u201d Steranka said to Dot Esports, highlighting that, while fans of the Galar region have so far received a selection of native Pok\u00e9mon, the remainder were skipped over but are coming in the \"not-so-distant future.\" In the interim, Steranka and the team opted into highlighting the Paldea region instead. Galar received a similar treatment back in August 2021 when various Pok\u00e9mon from Sword and Shield like Zacian, Zamazenta, and Wooloo began appearing despite Niantic still being deep in content based on Kalos and the X and Y games at the time.\u00a0 Related: All Pok\u00e9mon Go Fest 2023: New York City Special Research tasks and rewards Whether or not this is a decision being made internally to try and cross-promote Pok\u00e9mon Go alongside Scarlet and Violet\u2019s upcoming The Hidden Treasure of Area Zero DLC expansion, which launches its first part on Sept. 13, is yet to be seen. Niantic has a history of jumping around and releasing Pok\u00e9mon out of order, even if they aren\u2019t done with a full generation yet.\u00a0 As Steranka said, this does not mean Galarian Pok\u00e9mon are taking a backseat at all, it is just striking while the Paldean iron is hot with a few additions like Sprigatito, Fuecoco, and Quaxly\u2014even if we don\u2019t know what other Gen 9 Pok\u00e9mon will make the jump alongside the Starters.\u00a0Gimmighoul doesn't really count since it was actually first revealed through Pok\u00e9mon Go. Steranka also mentioned that it is \u201ca special moment\u201d every time they get to introduce a new generation of Pok\u00e9mon into Pok\u00e9mon Go, but part of Niantic\u2019s focus in recent years has been trying to work out how Pok\u00e9mon releases impact the game and making sure the game isn\u2019t reliant on them. \u201cI actually feel like we\u2019ve made tremendous strides on [Pok\u00e9mon releases] in recent months and years because there\u2019s only so many Pokemon out there to release in Pok\u00e9mon Go and we can\u2019t really just operate the game in a way that it only matters when we release new Pok\u00e9mon,\u201d Steranka said.\u00a0 Steranka also said the Pok\u00e9mon Go team has been happy with the ways it has been keeping players engaged and entertained without needing to rely on a Pok\u00e9mon release for every event. As the game continues to grow, approaching development \u201cwithout having to rely on Pok\u00e9mon releases has been a big challenge\u201d that he says the team is \u201con a good streak of striking balance\u201d with. Pok\u00e9mon Go <\/em>has come a long way in seven years, but Niantic still struggles with certain live-service elements like deciding when and where to release Pok\u00e9mon for the game. As a result, players were a bit surprised to hear the mobile game would be bypassing the rest of Sword <\/em>and Shield <\/em>to start releasing Pok\u00e9mon featured in Scarlet <\/em>and Violet<\/em>. <\/p>

Ahead of the 2023 Pok\u00e9mon<\/em> World Championships<\/a>, Niantic and The Pok\u00e9mon Company teased that Paldean Pok\u00e9mon will be appearing in Pok\u00e9mon Go <\/em>when the next season starts on Sept. 1. According to Pok\u00e9mon Go <\/em>director Michael Steranka, it was a decision made for relevancy.<\/p>

\u201cIt was a tough decision to skip ahead to Paldea, but we really wanted to feature those Pok\u00e9mon while they are super relevant with Scarlet <\/em>and Violet<\/em>,\u201d Steranka said to Dot Esports, highlighting that, while fans of the Galar region have so far received a selection of native Pok\u00e9mon, the remainder were skipped over but are coming in the “not-so-distant future.” In the interim, Steranka and the team opted into highlighting the Paldea region instead.<\/p>

Galar received a similar treatment back in August 2021 when various Pok\u00e9mon from Sword <\/em>and Shield <\/em>like Zacian, Zamazenta, and Wooloo began appearing despite Niantic still being deep in content based on Kalos and the X <\/em>and Y <\/em>games at the time. <\/p>

Whether or not this is a decision being made internally to try and cross-promote Pok\u00e9mon Go <\/em>alongside Scarlet <\/em>and Violet\u2019s <\/em>upcoming The Hidden Treasure of Area Zero <\/em>DLC expansion, which launches its first part on Sept. 13, is yet to be seen. Niantic has a history of jumping around and releasing Pok\u00e9mon out of order, even if they aren\u2019t done with a full generation yet. <\/p>
