Are you ready to head back into the gray zone? A new major update for Gray Zone Warfare just dropped, optimizing the extraction shooter in a number of ways.

After getting off to a hot start, the game has definitely lost the majority of its hype and player base since launching in April. Much of that could be blamed on new games coming out, but GZW was definitely quite buggy and poorly optimized at launch.

Even in early access, Gray Zone Warfare has a ton of missions to keep you busy for hours and hours, and we’ve got every task listed for you to check out.

Outside of basic survival in Gray Zone Warfare, your main job is to go around the island completing quests for each vendor. It will vary from faction to faction, but whichever path you choose, there are a ton of quests to earn XP, obtain better gear, and survive.

MADFINGER Games has just released the second patch for the Gray Zone Warfare public playtest. And while new landing zones and quality-of-life updates are good, one of the game’s biggest issues is still rampant.

Nine new landing zones have been added to the Gray Zone Warfare public playtest servers, but the lack of available helicopters to take players to and from these landing zones remains an issue. Even as the game has dipped in popularity slightly after its red-hot launch, players such as myself have been left stuck calling for a helicopter for anywhere between 10 to 20 minutes.

After a horrendous reception to Gray Zone Warfare‘s latest update, developers have rolled back all changes and issued a formal apology to the player base for not believing in the hundreds of fan reports about the debilitating issues plaguing the game across all servers.

According to Madfinger CEO Marek Rabas, the developer team behind Gray Zone Warfare failed to release a fast fix for the ongoing issues because they didn’t believe their own community and the mass reports from a majority of the players, from Twitter to Reddit and beyond. As a result, the team has rolled back Hotfix 5.3 and will be working on a new hotfix update in the near future.

After a recent hotfix in Gray Zone Warfare, multiple different players have reported debilitating issues with FPS that are causing various crashes across the entire game.

To see if this is a large-scale issue, developers have also opened up a new Google Form for the player base to use and report problems they’re running into. There are, however, multiple different threads on Gray Zone Warfare‘s official subreddit where players claim to be running into horrible lag, extreme rubber banding, and crashes galore.

It turns out the biggest threat to players in Gray Zone Warfare isn’t other players from opposing factions, but rather the aimbot-like AI. But while the devs are going to tone down the AI aiming prowess, players shouldn’t expect it to get too easy.

In the second GZW community briefing, the team at MADFINGER Games confirmed that one of its biggest immediate priorities is enemy AI, which has been a consistent issue for the greater community. But while the AI’s aiming will seemingly be nerfed soon, over time the AI is only going to get harder.

Handshake has increasingly dangerous jobs for you in Gray Zone Warfare. For The Congressman quest, the next thing you need to do is locate a missing smartphone. It’s not for a missing person, but it’s still an important task that pays well.

There’s a short list of locations you need to check to find this smartphone, but it’s challenging to track down. The location contains multiple NPCs in Gray Zone Warfare, and they’re not going to take kindly to visitors they don’t want to deal with. Luckily, you might be able to slip in and out without being noticed.

Gray Zone Warfare‘s early access period has entered its third week, and while most players have enjoyed working their way through the many quests and dabbling in PvP, some have been encountering trolls of another kind—their own allies.

Players are today calling on developers MADFINGER Games to address an annoying “grenade glitch” that has popped up in Gray Zone Warfare where allies can blow up their teammates and steal their loot. The glitch was originally used to loot the base’s AI soldiers, who carry some pretty sweet gear, but a few unsavory troops found the bug works on players too and now they’re nabbing their hard-earned gear along the way.

Gray Zone Warfare has had some significant issues with crashing and performance, but the early access extraction shooter has a temporary solution until one of its major gameplay problems is solved: togetherness.

In the game’s first community update post, the developers of Gray Zone Warfare at MADFINGER Games commented on the frequency of unavailable helicopters, saying they’re aware of the issue and working on a solution. According to them, the lack of readily available helicopters is “an unintended side effect of the amount of solo players, which are more than we expected.”

Gray Zone Warfare is smashing through sales milestones during its early-access period, but the developers at MADFINGER Games have said if the company does adopt the sale of cosmetic packs, the money would go to a good cause.

When asked about the possibility of selling cosmetics by Insider Gaming’s Grant Taylor-Hill, MADFINGER comms and PR director Rick Lagnese said any microtransactions in Gray Zone Warfare will be purely cosmetic with the proceeds going to charity.
