For Sand Land, that means digging through the desert and fighting demons to see if it shares a connection to Dragon Ball.\u00a0 Sand Land was originally published as a short series in 2000, right as Dragon Ball Z continued to explode in popularity in the West and Dragon Quest VII: Fragments of the Forgotten Past hit PlayStation in Japan. The sci-fi comedy adventure was one of Toriyama\u2019s last original works until he returned to the Dragon Ball universe in 2013, which begs the question, is Sand Land connected to Dragon Ball in any way? Is Sand Land connected to Dragon Ball or Dragon Ball Z? Because Akira Toriyama has a distinct and recognizable art style, most of his original work shares similar designs regarding character faces and features. Sand Land does look very similar to Dragon Ball with some of the designs for characters, monsters, and machines, however, it only has a few passing connections to Toriyama\u2019s most popular series.\u00a0 I noted in my\u00a0Sand Land\u00a0review\u00a0that\u00a0the story throws me back to classic\u00a0Dragon Ball\u00a0and the focus on a group adventuring together, however,\u00a0no characters, settings, or\u00a0major\u00a0factors from\u00a0Sand Land\u00a0are directly referential\u00a0to\u00a0Dragon Ball. There is\u00a0a connection in small details, such as the\u00a0currency in both worlds being Zeni\u00a0or\u00a0Capsules being used\u00a0to transport vehicles\u00a0and other objects easily,\u00a0 The\u00a0biggest\u00a0connection to\u00a0Dragon Ball\u00a0in\u00a0Sand Land\u00a0is the\u00a0design of its vehicles.\u00a0The\u00a0Power Armor Beezlebub can pilot\u00a0looks very similar to the Pilaf Machine\u00a0without a few parts,\u00a0though,\u00a0this could\u00a0simply\u00a0be down to Toriyama\u2019s unique way of drawing robots. The only direct inclusion seems to be the\u00a0one-off Pirate Robot featured in the\u00a0Dragon Ball\u00a0manga\u00a0chapter 74\u00a0as the Skeletor enemy type\u00a0you face as a boss and can later grind for resources.\u00a0 Is Dabura from Dragon Ball Z in Sand Land?\u00a0 While no\u00a0Dragon Ball\u00a0character appears in\u00a0Sand Land, some fans think\u00a0Beelzebub's\u00a0father, Demon King\u00a0Lucifer, looks far too similar to\u00a0Dragon Ball\u00a0Z\u2019s\u00a0Demon King Dabura\u00a0to be a coincidence. Despite some similarities, however,\u00a0the two characters have not been confirmed to be the same being.\u00a0 Dabura is named Satan or Lucifer in various translations of\u00a0Dragon\u00a0Ball,\u00a0but is known as the King of the Demon Realm and has several\u00a0distinct physical differences from\u00a0Sand Land\u2019s\u00a0own Demon King. Beyond that,\u00a0Toriyama is known for drawing similar characters and reusing base designs\u00a0across multiple projects, with most\u00a0of his\u00a0projects having at least a few examples of same-face syndrome popping up.\u00a0 Does Sand Land take place in a Dragon Ball universe?\u00a0 Just like with the Dabura conversation, some\u00a0Dragon Ball\u00a0fans think that\u00a0Sand Land\u00a0does have a connection to the series by taking place\u00a0in one of the multiple universes established to exist in\u00a0Dragon Ball Super.\u00a0This\u00a0could be true, but\u00a0Toriyama never stated this. Outside of a few glimpses during the Universe 6 and Tournament of Power sagas, at least for anime-only viewers, we don\u2019t know\u00a0a lot\u00a0about the universes beyond Universe 7, which is home to Goku and his friends. The sci-fi comedy adventure was one of Toriyama\u2019s last original works until he returned to the Dragon Ball universe in 2013, which begs the question, is Sand Land connected to Dragon Ball in any way? Is Sand Land connected to Dragon Ball or Dragon Ball Z? Because Akira Toriyama has a distinct and recognizable art style, most of his original work shares similar designs regarding character faces and features. Sand Land does look very similar to Dragon Ball with some of the designs for characters, monsters, and machines, however, it only has a few passing connections to Toriyama\u2019s most popular series.\u00a0 I noted in my\u00a0Sand Land\u00a0review\u00a0that\u00a0the story throws me back to classic\u00a0Dragon Ball\u00a0and the focus on a group adventuring together, however,\u00a0no characters, settings, or\u00a0major\u00a0factors from\u00a0Sand Land\u00a0are directly referential\u00a0to\u00a0Dragon Ball. There is\u00a0a connection in small details, such as the\u00a0currency in both worlds being Zeni\u00a0or\u00a0Capsules being used\u00a0to transport vehicles\u00a0and other objects easily,\u00a0 The\u00a0biggest\u00a0connection to\u00a0Dragon Ball\u00a0in\u00a0Sand Land\u00a0is the\u00a0design of its vehicles.\u00a0The\u00a0Power Armor Beezlebub can pilot\u00a0looks very similar to the Pilaf Machine\u00a0without a few parts,\u00a0though,\u00a0this could\u00a0simply\u00a0be down to Toriyama\u2019s unique way of drawing robots. The only direct inclusion seems to be the\u00a0one-off Pirate Robot featured in the\u00a0Dragon Ball\u00a0manga\u00a0chapter 74\u00a0as the Skeletor enemy type\u00a0you face as a boss and can later grind for resources.\u00a0 Is Dabura from Dragon Ball Z in Sand Land?\u00a0 While no\u00a0Dragon Ball\u00a0character appears in\u00a0Sand Land, some fans think\u00a0Beelzebub's\u00a0father, Demon King\u00a0Lucifer, looks far too similar to\u00a0Dragon Ball\u00a0Z\u2019s\u00a0Demon King Dabura\u00a0to be a coincidence. Despite some similarities, however,\u00a0the two characters have not been confirmed to be the same being.\u00a0 Dabura is named Satan or Lucifer in various translations of\u00a0Dragon\u00a0Ball,\u00a0but is known as the King of the Demon Realm and has several\u00a0distinct physical differences from\u00a0Sand Land\u2019s\u00a0own Demon King. Beyond that,\u00a0Toriyama is known for drawing similar characters and reusing base designs\u00a0across multiple projects, with most\u00a0of his\u00a0projects having at least a few examples of same-face syndrome popping up.\u00a0 Does Sand Land take place in a Dragon Ball universe?\u00a0 Just like with the Dabura conversation, some\u00a0Dragon Ball\u00a0fans think that\u00a0Sand Land\u00a0does have a connection to the series by taking place\u00a0in one of the multiple universes established to exist in\u00a0Dragon Ball Super.\u00a0This\u00a0could be true, but\u00a0Toriyama never stated this. Outside of a few glimpses during the Universe 6 and Tournament of Power sagas, at least for anime-only viewers, we don\u2019t know\u00a0a lot\u00a0about the universes beyond Universe 7, which is home to Goku and his friends.
